Magazine Monday #53: Sangria Chicken

My roommate is in a line of work in which she receives a lot of gifts at holiday times, and last summer she was given a whole bunch of wines. One bottle she opened and didn't drink so she gave it to me. It was a cabernet sauvignon. I don't drink wine at all, but I do enjoy cooking with it! And there was a recipe from the March 2009 issue of Gourmet for Sangria Chicken that really tickled my fancy, and now I had the means to try it out!

The recipe is here.

This was a fabulous recipe! It was super quick and easy to make, and very, very tasty. A definite keeper!

I don't drink either, which means I never have any wine around to cook with! That looks tasty. I bet the sweet sauce was really nice with rice.

I don't drink either but I always have wine around to cook with and often other stuff as well...my husband drinks, but basically he drinks what I buy for cooking!

this is very pretty. I don't like sweet stuff on meats though. I would do fine with the grapes, (the marmelade being where it goes too far for me) and I love the idea of grapes in a dish...very pretty.

We love Wine and sangria is a big hit with us. However, the baby is still being nursed so i don't get to indulge as much. I always pair chicken with white wine, but the red in this version clearly sets of such a fancy appeal to the dish, and with all that fruit, I am thinking it was an even more yummier version of a lemon chicken ?... Thank you for this one wc.... i know it will come in handy.

Mmm, that looks so good! I do drink wine, and cook with it. Wine adds such nice tartness to a dish while tenderizing the meat. I need to be in a position where people shower me in wines! What a great feature in a roommate.

red wine, marmalade and grapes... this sounds terrific. I just had some grilled grapes for the first time, now I am wondering how I can make this recipe on a grill...

HMMM... this may be my next inspirational recipe.

I just read over your blog for the past week. I am catching up with everything I missed... the marble thing was VERY sexy and pretty

Nice to receive wine. We never have bottles that we don't drink here. This is a nice chicken dish.

Now this one is sexy :-) I have drinking and cooking wines..... depends what we are doing. I like the fact that this is super quick...sometimes you are in a hurry.

I drink wine once in a while, and I usually end up using any remainder for cooking, too. This dish certainly looks interesting! I can't say I've ever had grapes with chicken in anything other than a chicken-salad type thing. Looks delish, though!

I love wine in cooking or in a glass. I must admit the idea of sangria chicken intrigues me.
